The newspaper said the National Security Council agreed on Tuesday to allow Huawei to participate in some of its network construction, such as antennas and other "non-core" infrastructure. The British National Security Council is chaired by the Prime Minister.

Huawei said last week that the company has signed 40 5G contracts to prepare for the commercial launch of the new technology. Hu Houkun, the company's vice chairman, announced the news in a keynote speech at the 2019 Global Analyst Conference. Hu Houkun said that 5G is expected to reach the milestone of 500 million users worldwide within three years (2019-2022).

Huawei’s chief representative in the EU said last month that it welcomes the European Commission’s objective recommendations on 5G security.

“Huawei welcomes the objective and commensurate recommendations of the European Commission on 5G security. Huawei understands the concerns of European regulators on cybersecurity. Based on mutual understanding, Huawei is looking forward to contributing to the European cybersecurity framework.”

The statement said: "We are firmly committed to continue to work with all regulators and partners to make the promotion of 5G in Europe successful."

Abraham Liu, chief representative of Huawei's EU agency, issued the statement on the occasion of the European Commission's 5G security recommendations.
