AutoX, the Chinese unmanned vehicle company, fired the first shot at RoboTaxi service in California.
Just now, California issued its second Autonomous Vehicle Pilot Permits. AutoX became the second unmanned car company to win the license after Zoox and the first Chinese unmanned car company to win the license.
Taking the license plate means RoboTaxi is available in California.
Comparing with Zoox, AutoX came first, announcing that RoboTaxi was officially launched in California.
Users will now be able to summon an AutoX driverless taxi through App to experience the latest level of automatic driving intuitively.
California RoboTaxi Trial Operating License
We've been introduced before, AVPP.
Although California is the world's most important unmanned vehicle route survey, passenger permits have been more cautious.
So Waymo and others started RoboTaxi and had to go to Arizona where policy was more open.
And it is worth noting that Waymo's Robo Taxi operation in Phoenix is still limiting the area and passengers.
But California's AVPP is not limited. California only stipulates that, first of all, RoboTaxi must have a safety guard in the driver's seat, and secondly, it must not pick up other passengers halfway, and one trip must be end-to-end. Finally, it can not operate on special roads such as airports.
Of course, the licence is not easy to obtain, but also a proof of the comprehensive strength of the technology of an unmanned vehicle company.
The licence is issued by the California Public Utilities Commission.
California government agencies are responsible for assessing the technology level, operational capability and safety standards of driverless companies in an all-round way, and making decisions on whether to approve the operation.
China's first license
After the AVPP license was awarded, AutoX became the first unmanned vehicle company in China to obtain this license.
And with AutoX's immediate announcement of RoboTaxi pilot service, it has become the first company in the world to offer RoboTaxi in California.
AutoX revealed that RoboTaxi services had not been prepared before, and the AVPP license was the last step in getting everything ready.
AutoX Operations Team is now starting RoboTaxi in California.
Nearly 10 AutoX cars are said to be available, and users in Silicon Valley, California, can call a driverless taxi through AutoX App.
Prof. Xiao Jianxiong, the founder of the AutoX, said:
In addition to California, AutoX is conducting self-driving tests in many parts of China.
It is reported that at home, AutoX has also reached strategic cooperation with SAIC, Dongfeng and BYD, and has accumulated massive road survey experience data on the road with Chinese characteristics in China's first-tier urban centers.
It is worth noting that AutoX has just obtained the first automatic driving road test license issued by Guangzhou, and as the first automatic driving enterprise, it has also obtained the automatic driving road test license of Zhaoqing City.
