YouTube will allow users to hide suggested channels they don't want to see. The user can click on the three-point menu next to the video and select "Don't recommend channel." YouTube will also try to find what users want more easily. When scrolling up the home page or scrolling up, users will be able to select categories that are relevant to their interests. The goal of YouTube’s new features is to help users find what they are looking for faster. YouTube also lets users know why they see specific video suggestions - for example, because they have watched similar content in the past, or have other similar interests like it.
YouTube's algorithms have been criticized for promoting video from pedophiles, to pushing extremist content, suggesting false information related to 9/11, and conspiracy videos related to miracle therapy. The new feature does not address these issues, but at least the user can now control what is displayed in the feed.
