Currently, eBay's sellers are responsible for handling transportation. This Managed Delivery service is voluntary for sellers, but eBay says it offers faster, cheaper, and more reliable transportation.
Through this service, eBay will work with a number of logistics suppliers to fulfill delivery orders through "strategic warehouses throughout the country." After eBay handles customer service, the warehouse will handle picking, packaging and transportation. Sellers can manage their inventory through the seller's center. Devin Wenig, chief executive of eBay, said the solution would be "competitive prices" and target sellers of large quantities of electronics, homes, gardens and fashion products. The company has piloted the system with a number of sellers.
