Windows Core operating system is preparing for the next generation of Microsoft devices

This morning, a Microsoft engineer LinkedIn profile revealed that the long-rumored Windows core operating system (Windows Core OS) is preparing for the "next generation" of Microsoft devices. The engineer wrote in his profile: “Azure-based device management capabilities and protocols are available on IoT devices, next-generation WCOS devices, Windows desktops, HoloLens and Windows Server”.

The Microsoft Windows Core OS is said to be a Windows-based operating system that is said to power a variety of computing devices. Next-generation devices include the Surface Hub, Hololens and upcoming foldable devices. Another introduction to the engineer points to how to implement Windows storage on the Windows Core OS, a way to protect data from drive failures.

The term WCOS (Windows Core OS) was also used by Microsoft to post jobs on LinkedIn. It is inferred that Windows Core OS or modular operating system may be a necessary project because Windows is not built to run on devices of all shapes, and computing is rapidly evolving. Modern operating systems provide a better software update experience, overall improvements in security and compatibility.

Microsoft has also been working on a large software update for Surface Hub, which is reported to be part of the Windows Core OS (WCOS) project. The next-generation HoloLens announced by Microsoft at Mobile World Congress should also come with a version of Windows Core OS.
