Southwest Airlines introduced payment platforms such as Apple Pay to purchase on-board services

"It's crucial to provide our customers with modern digital payment solutions," said Christopher Priebe, director of finance, payment and risk at Southwest Airlines. "The launch of Apple Pay has enhanced our ability to sell flights and use one of the most widely used digital wallets in North America as an adjunct."

Through years of cooperation between Southwest Airlines and CellPoint Digital Payment Company and the assistance of UATP, Southwest Airlines has achieved the latest Apple Pay integration. The agreement signed in June 2018 integrates CellPoint's Alternative Payment Center with UATP's Captor Payment Platform.

By CellPoint, the airline can use a payment system operated by 350 partners, including digital wallet solutions such as Apple Pay, Visa Checkout, Tencent Payments, Alipay, and Google Pay.

Like other major airlines, Southwest Airlines has integrated many mobile technologies in its iOS applications, such as Wallet. With the new Apple Pay feature, users can buy tickets from the carrier's applications - if they want, they can use Apple Card - and store them in Wallets for exchange.
