Original title: Apple TV Plus will launch in India for $1.40a month
The online streaming service, Apple TV Plus, will be launched in India, with a monthly fee of Rs.99 (about $1.4,10 yuan), according to foreign media. This is lower than both Netflix and Amazon's Indian service, and the two companies are also taking advantage of the growing Indian market. India has more than 500 million Internet users, and its Internet users are second only to China.
Apple TV Plus, which is $4.99 in the U.S., will be launched on November 1 in more than 100 countries and regions, including India. Users can try one week free of charge, and those who buy the iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac or iPod touch can enjoy a full-year free subscription service. Apple TV Plus will first offer nine original TV series, including the Morning Show and the science fiction, and other films, documentaries and TV shows.
However, these U.S. companies have not provided the same competitive price as the native streaming services in India, which may be as low as $0.4 a month. Of course, the price is not the only factor that determines whether the customer will subscribe, and the quality of the content.
India's streaming service, Hotstar, has the country's largest app download, but it's actually a disney's subsidiary, Star India. It is rumoured that Disney will introduce its streaming content as a Hotstar subscription, which will be localized using several Indian language dubbing and captioning. Hostar has even its own version of the Office. (small)<#comment>#comment>
