SD-WAN infrastructure market share: Cisco 46.4%, VMware 8.8%

According to a IDC study, Cisco had the largest share of the SD-WAN infrastructure market in 2018, followed by VMware,Silver Peak,Nuage Networks and Riverbed.

IDC's Market Share and Forecast focuses on the SD-WAN infrastructure market, which consists of hardware and software used in the SD-WAN deployment environment.

Driven by router deployment and many SD-WAN products, Cisco has the largest share of the SD-WAN infrastructure market. Cisco has a wide variety of SD-WAN products, the main products based on the Viptela. it acquired in 2017 Cisco's Meraki business portfolio and its IWAN SD-WAN services are also involved in SD-WAN.

Similarly, VMware's success in the SD-WAN market is due to its acquisition of VeloCloud two years ago. Cisco and VMware are actively integrating Viptela and VeloCloud into their respective business product portfolios.

At the macro level, IDC research shows that the enterprise network market for SD-WAN infrastructure will grow rapidly at an annual compound growth rate of 31 percent from this year to 2023, reaching $5.25 billion in 2023.

Rohit Mehra, vice president of network infrastructure at IDC, said in a statement:

According to IDC, the SD-WAN infrastructure market remains extremely competitive, with sales up 65% last year to $1.37 billion.

While IDC's report focuses on infrastructure SD-WAN services, managed SD-WAN services, including installation and operational support, are also on track to grow.

According to Vertical Systems Group, the revenue of SD-WAN service for carrier-level hosting in the United States grew by more than $282 million in the second half of last year. Vertical Systems Group expects network operators to further enhance hosting of SD-WAN products this year.
