Intel buys Pivot Software Business for $27 million

via:新浪科技     time:2019/10/16 7:00:45     readed:114

The software is designed to run on Intel chips, and the company is famous for producing chips that are the "heart" of most PC, but Intel now aims to sell it to 5G devices. 5G is the next generation of wireless data networks launched this year.

According to the securities regulatory documents submitted by pivot, smart edge did not generate much revenue in the first six months of 2019, but had a loss of about $1 million before depreciation and amortization. Pivot, with a market value of about $43 million, won a smart edge technology patent in the US in July.

Intel, which is expected to complete its acquisition of Smart Edge in the fourth quarter, sees 5G as an opportunity to expand its sales beyond the two largest business areas of PC and data centers.

In 5g network, more data will be stored on computers scattered near base stations and other network devices, which is called "edge computing" in the industry. Compared with the data stored in the central data center, edge computing is expected to help large capacity files such as video be displayed on the user's screen faster.

Dan Rodr x {e16c} uez (Dan Rodriguez), general manager of network computing at Intel data Center Group, said in a statement: "We plan to make full use of our technology and team to speed up the edge computing market."

Intel shares rose 1.96% to $52.65 in Nasdaq regular trading on Tuesday, while pivot shares rose 1.40% to $1.45 in Toronto trading.
