Microsoft beat Amazon to win the Pentagon's $10 billion Jedi cloud contract

via:cnBeta.COM     time:2019/10/26 8:31:08     readed:248

For Microsoft, this is a very important contract, because the company is competing with Amazon for the cloud advantage, and Microsoft or Amazon who can win this honor is up in the air. Both IBM and Oracle were eliminated in the April bidding process, and only Microsoft and Amazon may be the only companies that can meet the requirements. The contract has been controversial throughout the bidding process, and Oracle has claimed more than once that there is a conflict of interest in the contract.

President Trump even took part in the bidding process, saying the government was reevaluating contracts after competitors and Amazon and Microsoft "received a lot of complaints." Trump has been critical of Amazon and its chief executive Jeff Bezos (Jeff Bezos) for the company's tax arrangements.

Although the 10-year contract award is a huge win for Microsoft, employees may not necessarily agree. Earlier, thousands of Google employees protested the technology giant's involvement in the Pentagon's Pathfinder AI program, project Maven. Google was eventually forced to quit work and confirmed not to participate in the final bidding process for the contract.

Microsoft employees also called on the company to abandon itThe U.S. Army contract, which could eventually provide more than 100000 augmented reality headwear devices for military combat and training. But in contrast to Google, Microsoft is still on the contract, and the army is already using the improved hololens 2 for its soldiers.
