According to the data disclosed by TSMC in the financial report, the chip with 7Nm technology accounts for the largest shipment volume, accounting for 35% in the fourth quarter, more than a third.
Among the chips of other processes, 16 nm accounted for 20%, 10 nm for 1%, accounting for 35% of 7 nm. TSMC's 16 nm and more advanced process chips accounted for 56% of the total shipments in the fourth quarter of last year.
TSMC's third quarter financial report released on October 17 last year showed that the proportion of 7Nm chip shipments in this quarter was 27%, that of 10nm was 2%, and that of 16nm was 22%. Compared with the third quarter, the proportion of 7Nm chip shipments in the fourth quarter increased by 8 percentage points, and the shipments of 16nm and 10nm declined.
However, as TSMC's revenue in the fourth quarter increased by 8.3% compared with that in the third quarter, the overall chip shipments may also increase on a month on month basis. The decline in the proportion of 16nm and 10nm shipments does not necessarily mean that the shipments have declined.
TSMC's 7Nm process chips accounted for 35% of the total shipments in the fourth quarter of last year, which may be related to apple and Huawei. Apple and Huawei launched iPhone 11 series and mate 30 series phones last autumn. The A13 processor and Kirin 990 processor used TSMC's 7Nm process. These two series of smartphones last year In the fourth quarter, a large number of products were shipped, and the demand for corresponding processors also increased significantly.
TSMC's 7Nm process has been in mass production since 2018, when Apple's A12 processor and Huawei's Qilin 980 processor were also manufactured by TSMC using 7Nm process. In the fourth quarter of 2018, the 7Nm chip shipments accounted for more than 20% of TSMC's total shipments in that quarter. TSMC disclosed 23%. In that quarter, 10nm accounted for 6%, 16nm and 20nm accounted for 21%, and 28nm and more advanced process chips accounted for 67%.
