Compatibility evaluation of HP 65W PD power adapter

For a long time, the notebook power adapter was big, thick and heavy, just like a black brick. No matter how portable the notebook is, you need to bring a big black brick to charge when you go out, which is not portable at all. In this case, notebook brand HP HP has developed a new generation of power adapter tpn-la12, which is twice the size of the old big black brick, and its own woven usb-c data cable supports USB 13pd fast charging.

1、 Charger appearance introduction

1. Overall appearance

HP65W charger with bright black and grinding black mix design, in the middle of the shell is "HP" logo. The charger comes with its own output wire and is a universal USB-C output connector, which can facilitate the charging of other digital products. Material use of black and white gray woven skin, resistance to daily use of wear.

2. With usb-c output cable

Unlike the common power adapter straight-out wire, the HP65W charger wire is designed for the side line.

5、 Basic parameter test

Polling charger fast charging protocol, the charger is pure pd3.0 charger, excluding other fast charging protocols.

Using power-z km001c USB tester to read the e-marker information of usb-c wire rod of HP charger, it is found that the wire rod does not contain e-marker chip, which is a common wire rod. Generally speaking, if the wire does not have 5A e-marker, the output capacity of the charger will be limited to the upper limit of 3A current, which is converted to 20v3a = 60W. Will HP 65W charger be limited? See the PDO message section below.

After reading the PDO message of the charger, it is found that the HP 65W charger has five fixed voltage levels, namely 5v3a / 9v3a / 12v5a / 15v4.33a / 20v3.25a. The wire without e-marker does not limit the final output effect, and can achieve an output of more than 3a, with a maximum power of 65W.

6、 Compatibility test

1. Usb-c device

The cable of HP 65W charger is usb-c interface, so we test it from usb-c interface digital products.

Huawei mate30 supports the USB Pd / FCP / SCP / 40wscp fast charging protocol. In order to charge mate30, the power is 9.0V 1.38a 12.48w. It successfully shakes the USB PD fast charging and reaches the maximum power stage of USB PD fast charging.

Huawei P30 Pro supports USB Pd / FCP / SCP / 40wscp fast charging protocol. In order to charge P30 pro, the power is 9.0V 1.43a 12.91w. It successfully shakes hands with USB PD fast charging and reaches the maximum stage of USB PD fast charging power.

S10 support USB PD/AFC/QC fast charging protocol, charge S10, power 9.0V1.53A13.77W, successfully shake hands USB PD fast charging, and reach USB PD fast charging power maximum stage.

Xiaomi 9 supports USB Pd / QC / 27W chargeturbo fast charging protocol. It charges Xiaomi 9 with a power of 8.99v 1.89a 17.03w. It successfully shakes hands with QC fast charging and reaches the maximum stage of QC fast charging power.

Reno3 supports USB Pd / vooc4.0 fast charging protocol. It charges reno3 with a power of 5.02v 2.62a 13.19w. It successfully shakes hands with USB PD fast charging and reaches the maximum stage of USB PD fast charging power.

17T support USB PD/WARP fast charging protocol, charge for 17T, power 5.02V2.58A13.01W, successfully shake hands USB PD fast charging, and reach the maximum power stage of USB PD fast charging.

17Pro support USB PD/WARP fast charging protocol, charge for 17Pro, power 5.02V2.83A14.27W, successfully shake hands USB PD fast charging, and reach USB PD fast charging power maximum stage.

Meizu 16t supports USB Pd / QC / PE fast charging protocol. It charges Meizu 16t with a power of 8.99v 1.6A 14.46w. It successfully shakes hands with USB PD fast charging and reaches the maximum stage of USB PD fast charging power.

Meizu 16th plus only supports PE fast charging protocol. It charges Meizu 16th plus with a power of 5.02v 1.9a 9.58w and operates in 5V normal charging mode.

Xiaomi 5 only supports QC fast charging protocol. It charges Xiaomi 5 with a power of 5.01v 0.98a 4.94w and operates in 5V normal charging mode.

Glory 8 only supports FCP fast charging protocol, charging for glory 8, with power of 5.01v 1.11a 5.57w, running in 5V normal charging mode.

IPad Pro supports USB PD fast charging, charging iPad pro, with power of 14.98v 2.27a 34.12w. It successfully shakes hands with USB PD fast charging, and reaches the maximum stage of USB PD fast charging power.

Switch supports USB PD fast charging, charging for switch, with power of 8.99v 1.97a 17.71w. It successfully shakes hands with USB PD fast charging, and reaches the maximum stage of USB PD fast charging power.

MacBook Pro 13 supports USB PD fast charging, charging MacBook Pro 13, with power of 20.05v 2.88a 57.92w. It successfully shakes hands with USB PD fast charging, and reaches the maximum stage of USB PD fast charging power.

2. Other transfer charging conditions

The above is the content of compatibility test for usb-c digital products, except for usb-c devices,AppleLightning equipment can be charged by using usb-c to lightning data cable through power-z transfer mode, but this situation is not available for ordinary people. The following is only a test reference.

The iPhone 11 Pro Max supports the USB PD and apple2.4a fast charging protocol, charging the iPhone 11 Pro max with a power of 9.01v 2.51a 22.64w, successfully shaking hands with the USB PD fast charging, and reaching the maximum stage of USB PD fast charging power.

IPhone 11 supports USB PD and apple 2.4a fast charging protocol, charging iPhone 11 with a power of 9.05v 2.41a 21.73w. USB PD fast charging protocol is successfully handshaked and reaches the maximum stage of USB PD fast charging power.

IPad air3 supports fast charging of USB PD, charging for iPad air3, with power of 14.99v 2.17a 32.54w. It successfully shakes hands with USB PD fast charging, and reaches the maximum stage of USB PD fast charging power.

IPad mini5 supports fast charging of USB PD. It charges iPad mini5 with a power of 15.0v 1.4A 21.04w. It successfully shakes hands with USB PD fast charging and reaches the maximum stage of USB PD fast charging power.

IPad air2 only supports apple2.4a fast charging protocol. It charges iPad air2 with a power of 5.02v 1.41a 7.12w and operates in 5V normal charging mode (DCP).

Make a histogram of the success rate of all test results. You can see that the top three are 57W MacBook Pro 13, 34W iPad pro and 32wipad pad air3. The power of several later iPhones is 20W, and that of other Android devices supporting PD is 12-16w.

Summary:

The charger is integrated with woven usb-c wire, which has better bending resistance and longer life. As a general standard charging protocol, usb-c PD fast charging protocol supports charging other usb-c digital products in addition to notebook charging. However, the original design is mainly notebook, which only supports USB pd3.0 fast charging, and does not match other common fast charging protocols. For apple, Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, oppo and other new USB PD fast charging devices, they can shake hands and charge normally during the test.
