Dell's official flagship store

although this firmware defect was declared and fixed separately, the problem seems to originate from the same upstream supplier (shandy / SanDisk agent).

Blocks & files pointed out that firmware errors are very low-level and easy to fix, but their impact on enterprise customers is still equivalent to an earthquake.

It is reported thatDELL EMC firmware fixes Assert functionality involved that can check to verify that the index value of the loop buffer is incorrect.

However, the problem firmware is not checked as the maximum value of N, but n-1 is selected. After the firmware fix is deployed, this error will be fixed to n.

Previously, Dell EMC delivered many failed SAS-12Gbps enterprise drives with capacity ranging from 200 GB to 1.6. All of these drives need to be brushed into D417 version of firmware update to avoid 40,000 hours of "sudden death ".

Meanwhile, HPE shipped a large number of 800 GB to 1.6 TB drives with defective firmware, which were then used on numerous server and storage device product lines:

Affected HPE devices include ProLiant, synergy, Apollo 4200, synergy enclosures, D3000 storage enclosures, and storeeasy 1000, all of which require firmware refreshes to ensure stable operation.

In less than a year, the industry once again saw the fatal defects caused by SSD Firmware. In the second half of last year, HPE encountered a similar 32768 hour "Sudden Death Gate" when using different series of drives.

Given that the current SSD has become reliable enough to survive many years of service, we may see more long-term firmware related impacts in the future.
