Since this year, Samsung, LG and other South Korean panel giants have announced to stop LCD panel production. In addition to a part of the production capacity reserved at home, they basically quit the LCD market and focus on the OLED market. But in the OLED market, Chinese companies are catching up faster, and the market competition is not easy.

According to Group Intelligence, an industry research firm, in the global OLED panel market in 2019,Samsung leads all other manufacturers with an absolute share of 85.4%, while Beijing Oriental, the second largest Chinese company, has only 3.6%.

LG company ranked fourth in OLED market last year, after samsung, beijing east, and hwg, with a 2.8% share, but LG strength lies in the large size OELD panel, which has only begun to enter the small and medium size panel in recent years, so the share is not high.

South Korea's Samsung and LG companies are now leading the OLED sector, but they are also worried becauseChinese companies are catching up too fast. With BOE, csot, Tianma microelectronics, vicino and other companies vigorously building OLED production lines of 5.5 and 6 generations, OLED panels produced in China will increase significantly in the next three years.

According to the data, Chinese companies have put into production 12 OLED production lines, and 7 are under construction and planning, with a total investment of more than 350 billion yuan, of which Beijing and Eastern accounted for 139.5 billion yuan, and they added eight OLED production lines compared with 2015.

Korean companies are worried that Chinese companies are not only increasing their production capacity significantly,With the mastering of LCD and OLED panel production technology, there is also a competitive capital in the new generation of display technology, such as mini led, micro led and other emerging display panels, even exceeding the production speed.

Korean companies worry that if such development continues, Chinese companies will sooner or later control the entire industrial chain, and localization will be realized from upstream equipment to downstream products.
