When it comes to wine in English, which word will you think of? Many netizens may say wine. In fact, in a strict sense, wine is wine. In English context, beer, wine and liquor are mainly used to make a general name for the three kinds of wine, that is, beer, wine and liquor. Previously, in the import and export tariff of the General Administration of customs, the official guidance translation of Chinese liquor was Chinese distilled spirits, which was literally translated as Chinese distilled spirits.

However, from January 1, in the new "import and export tariff of the people's Republic of China" in 2021, the tax number of Chapter 22 is 2208.9020, the Chinese column name is liquor, and the corresponding English is Chinese baijiu.

China's liquor official account was published in the updated article of WeChat public number this week. After repeated communication with the Customs Administration (Beijing and Tianjin), the China Liquor Association formally applied to the Customs General Administration in April 25, 2020, and suggested that the English name of China liquor in the list of Customs products be changed from "Chinese distilled spirits" to "Chinese". Finally, it was adopted.

According to the liquor industry association, Chinese liquor, together with brandy, whisky, vodka, rum and gin, is known as the world's six major distilled spirits, accounting for about one third of the world's distilled spirits consumption. It has a production history of more than 2000 years. It adopts natural multi strain solid-state fermentation, solid-state distillation and total biomass conversion products which are completely different from those in the West.

However, for many years, the lack of an official and accurate English name for Chinese liquor has caused troubles to overseas consumers. For example, Chinese spirits, Chinese distilled spirits, Chinese Liquors and so on are all called "Chinese white liquor".
