Can Portal Go eat into Apple's iPad market?
Phoenix Tech News September 22, Beijing time, Facebook announced a mobile version of its Portal video chat device, the goal is to challenge Amazon Alexa and other smart speaker products on the market. Portal Go is equipped with rechargeable batteries and does not require a power outlet. That means Portal Go will enter the tablet market, represented by Apple's iPad, but Facebook insists its main use is video conferencing.
Facebook will have to convince consumers why they need to buy Portal Go, many tablets offer the same features, many already have tablets, and portable smart speakers may not be able to attract their interest. The $199 price is also lower than the iPad, which costs $329 for the lower version, but much lower for the official model and Android tablet.
Facebook rose $1.78, or 0.5 percent, to $357.48 in regular trading, after rising more than 1.2 percent to $360.04. (Author/Frost Leaf)
