Bloomberg january 22 news, people familiar with the matter said that multinational telecom giant Vodafone Group recently discussed a potential acquisition of British telecom operator Three UK. Three UK is owned by Cheung Kong Hutchison Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of Li Ka-shing. Vodafone expressed interest in acquiring Three UK at the end of 2021, but there was no agreement with Yangtze River Hutchison and it is not currently in active negotiations. Vodafone and Changjiang Hutchison declined to comment.
The merger of Vodafone and Three UK has been speculated for years, though regulators have been looking to limit integration between wireless carriers. In 2016, Cheung Kong Tried to buy another British telecommunications company, O2, but the EU rejected the proposal on suspicion of monopoly.
