Financial Associated Press (Shanghai Editor Liu Rui) news,South Korea's SK Hynix, the world's second-largest memory chip maker, reported strong fourth-quarter earnings. The financial report shows that the company's operating profit in the fourth quarter of last year increased by more than 3 times year-on-year. SK Hynix also said that it expects supply chain problems to gradually improve from the second half of this year, and the demand for memory chips will grow.

Boosted by strong demand for memory chips, SK Hynix made a profit of 4.2 trillion won ($3.49 billion) in the fourth quarter of last year, compared to 959 billion won ($796 million) in the same period last year, according to the performance report. That's SK Hynix' highest quarterly profit since 2018, and it also exceeded the average analyst estimate of 4 trillion won for Refinitiv.

SK Hynix' fourth-quarter revenue increased 55% year-over-year to a record 12.4 trillion won.

In the fourth quarter of last year, SK Hynix completed the first phase of the acquisition of Intel's NAND chip business. The company said Friday that with the acquisition, it expects sales of the company's NAND flash memory to double this year compared with last year.

TrendForce data shows that NAND chip prices are likely to fall by 8-13% in the first quarter of this year from the fourth quarter of last year, a decline of less than the 10-15% previously forecast.

TrendForce said the improvement in price forecast data reflects an increase in orders from PC manufacturers and a rekindling of concerns about chip supply after the previous lockdown in Xi'an Silver.

SK Hynix also said that it will carry out flexible inventory management for DRAM chips in 2022 with profitability as the center, which means that drAM chip price fluctuations may be controlled.

South Korean analysts pointed out that the decline in DRAM chip prices this quarter may also be lower than previously expected, or about 5%.
