The 990 PRO, Samsung's current flagship consumer SSD, costs a whopping 999 yuan for 1TB and 2,199 yuan for 2TB.
However, a recent article by Robbie Khan, a foreign user, said that just days after he bought the 990 PRO 2TB, he found that the fitness of the SMART device had dropped to 99%.
In contrast, my old Samsung SSD has been in use for one and a half years and has 40 terabytes of write capacity, but still has a 99 percent health rating.
Over the next few days, the 990 PRO continued to drop to 98% health, and then to 95%, while writing volume was not even 2 terabytes.
After contacting Samsung customer service, he was told that it was normal for his health to decline by several percentage points, and he suggested continuing to use it. If it continued to decline, he could apply for a warranty.
When he was 94% healthy again, Khan asked Samsung for a warranty and sent the SSD, only to get a furious response a few days later.
Samsung said it returned the original SSD because it was found to be in good condition and did not meet warranty conditions. After receiving the return, Khan checked on his computer and found that Samsung had not done anything other than format the SSD, including resetting the firmware, and remained 94 percent healthy.
Mr Khan's current grievances are threefold
One is that he submitted all the materials required by Samsung, but failed to pass the warranty;
Second, Samsung NVMe SSD Windows drivers have not been updated since 2020, which means 990 PRO is not supported until now, and more SMART tests cannot be performed using Magician Magician.
The third is that the search found that 990 PRO customers have similar situation is far from the only case.
