On February 7, a reporter from the National Business Daily learned from Baidu that Baidu has already started to develop related technology similar to ChatGPT. Baidu confirmed that the name of the project was Wenxinyi, or ERNIE Bot. The project will be completed in March and open to the public. At present, Wenxin Word is doing the sprint before the line. In September last year, Baidu CEO Robin Li described AI development as a "directional change at both the technical level and the commercial application level."
On Nov 30, artificial intelligence research lab OpenAI released its new chatbot model ChatGPT, which attracted global attention. On February 2, OpenAI launched ChatGPT Plus, a pilot subscription program for ChatGPT. ChatGPT Plus will be available for $20 a month.
At present, Baidu in AI four-tier architecture, there is a full stack layout. This includes the underlying chips, deep learning frameworks, large models, and top applications (such as search). Wenxin Yi is located in the model layer.
Che Wanxiang, a professor and doctoral supervisor of the Department of Computing at Harbin Institute of Technology, told the National Business Daily that Baidu has strong technical strength and deep technical accumulation, and it is natural for it to make a homegrown ChatGPT as long as it is determined to invest more resources.
