"solving the key problems in the power industry may lead to the next wave of AI." Wang Jian, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and founder of Aliyun, said when participating in the fourth Power dispatching AI Application Competition at the headquarters of Southern Power Grid on Feb. 17.
At the meeting, Wang Jian was interviewed by an economic reporter in the 21st century. with regard to the recent popularity of ChatGPT, he said that China already has the mathematical support and technical foundation of the developing country version of ChatGPT, and the crux of the problem lies in how technology accumulation can finally break out.
Wang Jian said that in the 1950s, the most remarkable thing that humans could imagine about AI was "playing chess." Until the emergence of Deep Blue and AlphaGo, AI beat the chess master, and artificial intelligence technology has made great progress.
A few years later, in order to solve the problem of "image recognition", ImageNet based on deep learning appeared in the AI world, which makes the machine's face recognition rate higher than that of human beings. This brings artificial intelligence to new heights.
The emergence of Alpha fold in recent years has surpassed that of first-class scientists in discovering protein structures, challenging their lifelong professional experience. ChatGPT brings a whole new revolution to natural language processing through the scene of chat.
"every leap in artificial intelligence revolves around tackling a problem," says Wang Jian. A well-defined problem can in turn promote the development of artificial intelligence.
Wang Jian pointed out that industry is the best place to use new technology. In the power industry and industrial field, we can find more high-level problems than "playing chess", leading the next wave of AI. If we can find and solve such a problem, it will have a greater and more positive impact on promoting social and economic development and changes in human life.
In view of the discussion on the demand for computing power triggered by the recent hot global ChatGPT, Wang Jian told the 21st century economic reporter that judging from the current development situation of cloud computing in China, China's computing power can well support the development of the Chinese version of ChatGPT.
He talked about the technology blockade and export ban imposed by the West on developing countries, including China, after the birth of supercomputers such as Deep Blue in the past. At that time, our country could still break through the prohibition, but today's scientific research conditions were much better than the environment at that time. Up to now, at least our country has enough strength to make ChatGPT.
The upsurge of ChatGPT has also triggered the race of Chinese science and technology enterprises in the chat robot software track. Search engine companies Baidu and 360, e-commerce company Alibaba, and artificial intelligence company iFLYTEK have all announced that they will launch ChatGPT-like products soon. Is it feasible to replicate ChatGPT in such a short time?
Wang Jian believes that Chinese enterprises have accumulated many kinds of related technologies involved in ChatGPT for many years, but the crux of the problem is how to achieve the outbreak. "on the basis of the same years of technology accumulation, whose technology can be accumulated to the extent that it can break out, this is the difference between enterprises."
