Nvidia shares closed at an all-time high on Thursday, with the chipmaker's market capitalization rising nearly 1/3 in just one day, closing at close to the $1 trillion mark.

A group of insiders in the US stock market after-hours "relish" comparison shows that Nvidia's market capitalization increase in a day, almost equivalent to 1.6 Qualcomm and 1.6 Intel.

With Wall Street analysts responding positively to Nvidia's guidance, many industry insiders believe that the global GPU giant has occupied a central position in the initial popularity of artificial intelligence tools and left other chip companies far behind. Judging from the trend so far this year, Nvidia's shares have risen 167% so far this year. At the same time, Qualcomm's share price fell about 3%.

However, Ziad Asghar, senior vice president of product management of Qualcomm Technologies, seems to be "quite uneven" about the share price gap of different chip semiconductor companies in this AI wave. He thinks other chip companies, including Qualcomm, can join the carnival.

Asghar, who specialises in AI, says this opportunity for generative artificial intelligence is also extraordinary for Qualcomm. "you have to understand that we have a way to bring all these experiences to people's devices."

Asghar believes that financial markets are not looking at Qualcomm the way it should-its products will make artificial intelligence-driven applications more widely available, and its share price should reflect that.

"We can actually bring all these [artificial intelligence] experiences to edge devices, PC, XR products, smartphones, Internet of things products," he said. This is actually an amazing opportunity for Qualcomm, and we believe we have some unique differentiated technologies that make us different from others in this area. "

A pioneering moment in the industry

Asghar believes that Qualcomm's ability to support applications and experiences more effectively on terminals in the past will contribute to the widespread spread of artificial intelligence.

During the Microsoft Build2023 developer conference earlier this week, Qualcomm demonstrated the company's latest terminal-side AI innovations, including running spanning AI on Snapdragon ®computing platform and new paths for developers to create applications on Windows11 PC using Snapdragon.

Asghar believed at the time that running AI applications on the terminal side would improve cost-effectiveness, enhance privacy, personalize, and reduce latency. Qualcomm has industry-leading AI hardware and software that empowers developers to take full advantage of its powerful AI capabilities to create amazing new user experiences on laptops, mobile phones and other terminals equipped with Snapdragon.

Asghar added in the latest interview, "our traditional advantage is to do more processing at the lowest possible power." This is exactly what we can do in artificial intelligence, on an unplugged device. While some of our competitors run on graphics engines that require hundreds of watts of power, we actually run the same experience with milliwatts. "

Eventually, he says, the AI boom will be more prosperous than Nvidia or Qualcomm.

"I think this is a groundbreaking moment for our industry because it has really changed the way we interact with products and devices. This is no longer the bubble-like hype that used to be. " Asghar said.
