Beijing regulators have fined Apple 200,000 yuan for promoting its M1 chip
(CNMO News) Apple has been touting its Macbook Air with the M1 chip that includes the "fastest CPU we've ever built." However, on May 31, CNMO noted that according to relevant information, Apple Electronic Products Trading (Beijing) Co., Ltd. was fined 200,000 yuan by the Dongcheng District Market Supervision Administration of Beijing for publishing false advertisements. The reason for this is that Apple has already introduced products such as the M1 Max and M1 Pro while promoting the Macbook Air. As a result, the M1 wasn't technically Apple's fastest CPU at the time.
According to official information, the M1 is the first chip product designed specifically for the Mac. As an SoC chip, it is equipped with an 8-core CPU, including four high-performance cores and four energy-efficient cores. It integrates a large number of advanced technologies and adopts a unified memory architecture, which brings great improvements in performance and energy efficiency. The M1 was also Apple's first PC chip built with an advanced 5-nanometer process, packing a whopping 16 billion transistors, the most of any Apple chip at launch.
At the same time, its Apple neural network engine has brought groundbreaking machine learning capabilities. Thanks to this, the M1 chip speeds up central processing unit (CPU) speeds up to 3.5 times, graphics processor speeds up to 6 times, machine learning speeds up to 15 times, and all while improving battery life up to twice that of the last generation of Macs.
